Podcast: Generation Y and Four Things That Won't Change Despite the Economy
Peter Clayton at Total Picture Radio recently released a new podcast in which he interviews author Stan Smith, a principal at i4cp member company Deloitte & Touche. Stan, who will also be speaking at i4cp’s Annual Member Conference during the last week of February, explains four fundamental things that will persist regardless of the economic conditions.
Stan is Director of Next Generation Initiatives at Deloitte and is an expert in workforce attitude trends. Considering that 80% of Deloitte’s workforce is under the age of 35, he constantly needs to be aware of how to recruit, engage and retain Generation Y and Millennial workers.
The podcast discussion touches on these four areas:
- Non-traditional family units make up the vast majority of households.
- Flexibility in and customization of careers is a necessity for workers.
- Workers (especially Millennials) are re-defining the role of work in their lives.
- A set of three realities - technology, attitudes toward business and a consumer mindset - have fundamentally affected how Millennials view the world.
